The first step is identifying the job you really want or, at least, a company for which you’d really like to work.  Most important about this decision is your underlying passions.  What are you passionate about?   Hopefully, if this job or career required a college degree, then it aligns with what drove you to choose your field of study.

Passion is such an important job element because it will drive your performance and make it a thousand times easier to excel.  We’ve all probably had a job at one point in our lives that we were not passionate about doing.  From household chores to making sandwiches at Subway as a teen, I’ve had my share.  They were a slog to get through and even with a sound work ethic, it took a lot of try to muster up the excitement and energy to approach each shift.

When you are truly passionate about your work, it will be more effortless to perform at a high level and succeed at your job.  If you took a less-than-ideal job at a company just to get your foot in the door, that is okay!  But recognize it, identify the ideal job or work team and set your focus on moving to that team as soon as reasonably possible.  I’ll talk more in-depth on how to do that when I cover Career Planning.

Ultimately, you need to align your job to your passion to fast track your career growth.  Performance is one of the key elements to the equation for career success.
